Using Tuna Fish for Dog and Cat Treats
Tuna puffs (aka dog or cat treats) are a tasty treat for your dog or your feline friend. It's easy to make and you can freeze or refrigerate it for months.
Since the ingredients are so simple, you probably have them in your pantry. After all, who doesn’t have a can of tuna fish, in their kitchen pantry.
Tuna Puffs Dog or Cat Treats are a great way to give your cat (or dog) fresh tuna.
Make sure you use light tuna in water instead of the oily kind. Tuna has lots of Omega-3 fatty acids, great for your furry friend's coat and skin.
Is Tuna Fish Good for Dogs or Cats?
Tuna fish is a good source of protein for your pet.
Tuna is also packed with vitamins and niacin. Giving your dog tuna has so many benefits.
If you're giving your dog or cat canned tuna, make sure it's water-based tuna. Water-based tuna is best because it won't give him extra fat, which might cause health problems. It can also help his skin and coat with essential nutrients.
How to Make Easy Homemade Tuna Puff Treats for Dogs & Cats
Ingredients:
- 4 ounce can of tuna fish in water, low salt
- ⅔ cup whole wheat flour
- 1 egg
- 1 tablespoon tuna fish in water (out of the can of tuna fish)
- 1-2 tablespoons extra flour for dusting dough
Supplies Needed:
- Cookie sheet
- Silicone mat or Parchment paper
- Food Processor
- Mini Cookie Cutter or other like object
- Rolling pin
Directions:
Step 1: Preheat oven to 350.
Step 2: In a food processor blend tuna, water and egg.
Step 3: Add in flour and mix well.
Step 4: Dump the dough onto a floured surface and roll out with a rolling pin until it is about as thick as pie crust.
Step 5: Using a knife, mini cookie cutter, or another small shaped object cut the dough into shapes/small pieces.
Step 6: Place cut pieces on a lined cookie sheet. I like to use a silicone mat on mine. Make sure they are not touching.
Step 7: Bake for 15 minutes until puffy and lightly golden.
Step 8: Remove from oven and allow to totally cool before placing in an airtight container.

Using a 4 ounce can of tuna fish remove the water and set aside.
