What kind of Peanut Butter to Use for Pupcakes
Of course, there are lots of different types of peanut butter and you’ll want to be careful if you’re feeding your dog a sugar-packed peanut butter versus a more natural one.
Peanut butter is a tasty topping for many dog treats. It’s also a great way to entice your dog to eat her regular dog food.
Not all peanut butter is safe for dogs. The best peanut butter is the one whose ingredients list only includes peanuts. Never choose a peanut butter that contains Xylitol as it’s toxic for dogs.

Like I said: it’s easy.
When you’re making these pupcakes, take into consideration how and what your dog eats, and how many cupcakes you need.
The recipe as written makes 6 regular sized cupcakes for larger dogs or make smaller cupcakes and you’ll 12 cupcakes.
For the frosting, I’m using cream cheese, but you can easily substitute that for banana if your dog has digestive issues with cream cheese.
How to Make Peanut Butter & Banana Pupcakes
Ingredients for Pupcakes
- 1 ripe banana
- ¼ cup peanut butter
- ¼ cup honey
- 1 egg
- ½ cups oat flour
- ¼ cup wheat flour
- 1 ¼ teaspoon baking powder
- ⅛ c coconut oil (melted)
- ¼ cup plus 2 T water
- ¼ heaping cup carob chips (No chocolate for dogs)
Supplies Needed:
- Bowl for mixing
- Microwave-safe bowl for melting oil
- Cupcake/muffin tins ( new muffin tins are on my horizon)
- Measuring spoon for dishing out the batter
Instructions for Pupcakes
Cut the banana into pieces and mash them.
Melt the coconut oil for about 50 seconds. Add to the bananas and mix well.
Combine the peanut butter, honey and egg, mix the wet ingredients.
Add the oat flour, wheat flour and baking powder to the wet ingredients, mix well.
Add the water and mix well.
Slowly the carob chips stirring to mix well.
Grease your muffin tins or use baking cup liners.
Fill the muffin pan approximately ¾ full.
Bake for 23 minutes at 350° degrees Fahrenheit.
Tips:
Use a /3 cup measure to scoop the batter into the muffin pans.

Ingredients
- 4 oz fat-free cream cheese softened
- ¼ cup Natural Peanut Butter (do not use sugar free)
- Spoonful plain Greek yogurt (approximately a tablespoon)
- Treats for décor optional
- Sprinkles optional
Supplies Needed:
- Bowl for mixing
- Fork for mashing
- Spoon for mixing
- Pastry/frosting bag – optional
- Frosting tip (Small hole) -optional I used a Wilton Tip 18
Frosting Directions
Place softened cream cheese into a bowl and mash until softened.
Cream the peanut butter and cream cheese until mixed.
Add a bit of yogurt if needed to soften the mixture. You'll want it so it’s not really stiff.
You can frost your pupcakes with a knife or a piping bag. If using a piping bag, cut the tip off and position the tip into the bag.
Add your frosting into the piping bag and begin frosting in a circular motion.
Last step, add décor to your pupcakes, if desired. For this recipe, I used bacon strips.

Notes
Pupcake Cupcakes
Use a ⅓ cup measuring cup to scoop batter into the muffin holes.
Frosting
Don’t use too much yogurt, you don’t want the frosting too soft. It will melt down into a big pile.
